I'm sure that this has come up previously, but...

Our concert band plays many old marches and overtures.  Many have D-flat Piccolo.  The players generally do the transposition, but often marches are so compressed that it is hard to read the part.

I've been asked to rewrite a couple of marches for C Flute.  Since there is no D-flat Piccolo in the instrument list, how do I create a D-flat transposition?

I suppose that you need to create a key signature transposition (not a chromatic transposition) - right?

 

 

In the dialog box Staff Transpositions, set the Interval to -8, and set the Key Alter to 5.

My college girlfriend was a flautist who once explained why Db piccolos existed. According to her, C piccolos reinforce certain undesirable shrill harmonics when played alongside C flutes. Transposing Dd piccolos do not cause this. She was one of those who was able to transpose on sight.
