Hello.  Can anyone suggest how I can insert an "e" with an acute accent in a term used for the tempo marking heading a movement?  I wish to use "modere" with 2 acute accents but when I try to use the character map the program gives its "tough luck mate" beeps.

… I try to use the character map …

You are talking about the Windows utility - right?

Finale has its own solution, namely the dialog box Symbol Selection.

How to get there:

Text menu > Inserts > Symbol…

The symbol is number 233 in my list.

Mac or Windows? As Francis has noted, it's in space 233.

On a Mac, it's even easier. Just hold down the e key and you will get a flyout. Tap the number for the accent you want.

Hello again patient helpers.  As mentioned, I did achieve my e acutes, but have now come back to something requiring an umlaut, and I can't recall how to highlight or select the letter in such a way that the symbol palette comes available by lighting up.  Any idea what I might have omitted or done wrong?

PS.  The letter needing the umlaut is in the title this time.

Margaret,

Please add your operating system and Finale version to your signature. On a Mac, hold down the letter needing the umlaut; ä, ë, ï, ö, ü, ÿ or whatever. On Windows, follow the instructions given above: Text menu > Insert > Symbol…

Margaret Johnson,

Are you still using Windows Finale?

Given the huge cost, looks like I'm stuck with it til my dying day....  I'll look at adding the info to the signature - not spotted this being done by others and hope my ignoramus level doesn't prevent. Windows and finale 20 I think it was.

Managed to access the symbol and put it in the right place thanks.  Not sure what I did differently but hopefully a little skill added.
