Hi, everyone. I'm new to GPO. Can one of you answer a question concerning the GPO5? I can't find any explanation in the GPO5 online manual or in this forum.

When selecting instruments (please see my attached screenshot), there's a list of the instrument families (01 Woodwinds, 02 Brass,..., 09 Choir) followed by "10 Garritan Orchestral Strings", which has Section, Small, and Solo Strings in it.

What's the difference between the samples in "07 Solo Strings" (yellow in the screenshot) and the solo strings inside the "10 GOS" section (pink in the screenshot)?

Yeah there definitely are redundancies and oddities in how GPO is organized. I do fine some effects in the orchestral solo strings that are not there for the notation or standard solo strings but that’s about it.

It's my underestanding that Garritan Orchestral Strings was developed and released first. One of the subsets of that product were the solo strings. This library ran under Gigastudio.

 

Now fast forward a few years and Garritan develops and releases the Garritan Personal Orchestra. One of the subsets of this product were also solo strings. GPO ran under Kontakt first, then under the Aria player.

 

When GPO 5 came out, both of these products were included in that package.

 

I do not know if both of these products used any of the same source material.

Good to know. I’m thinking they are different sources but who knows.
