Does anyone know whether Jari Williamson will update his plugins to work with SMuFL fonts in Finale 27 and beyond?

The latest JW Lua (Beta 0.54) exists in 32 and 64 bit versions (the latter for Finale 25, 26, 27)

1) Jari is still alive, but won't work on further development of his JW Lua scripts. Maybe other plug-ins in the future (not JW Lua).

2) About the JW Lua scripts and RGP Lua, a quote from Robert Patterson's site ( https://robertgpatterson.com/-fininfo/-rgplua/rgplua.html  ) :

RGP Lua includes the following features.

  • Lua 5.2, matching the version of Lua embedded in JW Lua.
  • Fully compatible with Jari Williamsson's PDK Framework.

RGP Lua has the following limitations with respect to JW Lua.

  • No support for finenv.UserValueInput. Use FCCustomWindow or FCCustomLuaWindow instead. (More information here.)
  • No included development environment.
  • All scripts must be accessed from Finale's Plug-In menu.

With the exception noted above (UserValueInput), scripts that run in JW Lua are compatible with RGP Lua. Most of the existing documentation for JW Lua is still relevant.

hanks for checking on him and updating us!

well, I'm certainly glad he is still around. That was not my worry, actually! ;-)

But it is a bummer that it remains unlikely/unclear if he will update or fix his current plugins. At least for now the critical things work for me, which is good. But all the more reason for MakeMusic to incorporate some/all of the functionality of his plug-ins. There are probably 5-6 that most of us would agree are critical (I'm talking about his plug-ins, not the scripts). T

A quote from Jari's email :

Regarding updates to other JW plug-ins (not JW Lua) There will be news on this later on.

So am I to understand that JW plugins do not work on my Mac mini, OS Big Sur v.11.6.1? I loved them and used them ALL the time.

No, but some things no longer will work in Finale 27.x (some modules in JW Change, for example). Also, JW Accidentals has been broken for some time-it crashes whenever I change a setting so I have to use the default, which is not optimal.

Thanks/ I just realized that none of my plugins are showing.  Even my Finale script thing. Am I missing a step?

No worries! I suspect when you installed, you didn’t copy the plugins folder from your previous Finale install to the new one.

Go to ~/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic (this is in your user folder, which is what the tilde means). Whichever version of Finale you were using before should have a folder there and inside that would be a plugins folder. Just copy it to the similar folder for the new installation.
