I have downloaded the various exercise worksheets that are available with Finale, so our ear training students can work with chords, intervals and scale exercises. It seems to me there are quite a few errors in the answer sheets. For example, in Intervals exercise 3102, interval no. 3 is notated G flat to B, which I think we all can agree should be an aug3. However, the answer sheet suggests it's a P4. Sure, when played on the piano, you can't tell the difference, but a P4 in notation would be F# to B. Can someone explain this inconsistency?

No need to explain: the P4 answer would be clearly wrong, and one would hope it would be corrected if Finale is responsible for the answer sheet.

Questions:

  1. Where did you find the answer sheet? I did not see one.
  2. I do not see a Gb to B (question 22 in Sheet 3202), but I do see a G to B#. Which version of Finale (& Templates) are you using?

So where is Finale USB (the answer key) located?

So where is Finale USB (the answer key) located?

In the Installer. I think you drag it manually to the desired location. I did a search of my Mac and found it in my Documents folder dated 2011—probably haven't installed it since.

I'm in Windows, but I'll see what I can find. Thanks.

In the old days, it was on the CD if that helps. As I recall, there was never an installer for it; you just dragged it into a directory.

Just as a friendly remark to conclude this discussion on my part, if you're simply looking for sheet templates, you're good to go with these resources. However, if you're looking for exercises to share with students or others, I wouldn't recommend using them, unless you want to spend hours revising them. The answer keys are filled with errors, and I find more and more of them as I work my way through the exercises that have already been shared with hundreds, if not thousands of students with these errors included. The enormous amount of errors makes me wonder who made these exercises and if there was any proof-reading done before they were included (probably not). As previously advised, I have submitted a request in the Finale forum if these worksheets have been revised in more recent versions of Finale, but I'm not sure whether MM will even bother to respond, as they no longer offer support for v25.

They probably haven't been updated in years but I'm not going to compare the 2011 in my Docs folder that I apparently dragged there in 2013 and the version on the 27 Installer per the screen shot I posted.

Who wants to proofread them against Elaine Gould? Anyone? Ferris?
