Finale 2020 on Windows 10.

The options for repeats and the d.c. have for over a decade been totally bewildering to this user.

1.  When I select the "d.c. al fine" designation, playback ignores it, simply terminating playback, no matter what parameters I choose.

2.  When I add a repeat at the end of a piece, playback returns to the beginning of the piece as instructed.  However, if there are smaller repeated sections within the piece, I generally want playback to use both endings each time they are encountered.  I've never been able to make this happen.

I can not explain why repeat playback does not work, no matter what parameters you choose.

1) If I understand you correctly, {D. C. al Fine} does not go Da Capo, but just stops playback at {D. C. al Fine} - right?

Could you attach a screen shot of the Text Repeat Assignment dialog box for your {D. C. al Fine}?

2) To make Finale playback repeats again after returning to the beginning of the piece you must tell Finale to do so.

In the Backward Repeat Bar Assignment, select the option {Reset on Repeat Action}.

Even with "reset on repeat action" checked, playback still skips to the second ending at bar 5 on the second pass.  At the end of the second pass, the "d.c. al fine" is ignored, and playback ends at bar 20.  The parameters offered for these actions and the corresponding descriptions in the Finale manual are both mystifying to me.

The only way you can get help here is :

• to submit the file (put in on a server and give a link) or ...

• show screenshots of each repeat assignment window (right repeat barline, 1, DC. al fine, Fine).

P.S. : If you want the whole page to be repeated (if I understand what you want), I would suggest to make it clear in the text "D.C. al Fine 2nd x (with repeats)", and/or maybe at the top, "always play repeats".

P.S. 2 : Parameters of the number  "1"

Dear Michel Herr,

Thank you for your response.

The best way for you to see the file is this link to DropBox:   https://www.dropbox.com/s/8uuxppxyge6ld20/O%20WORSHIP%20THE%20KING%20piano.musx?dl=0

Also, thank you so much for reminding how essential it is to clearly communicate with the performer as to the desired sequence (what jazz players refer to as "the road map").   Neglecting to be clear costs time in rehearsal or recording.

Craig Buhler,

1) For the First Ending, do as Michel Herr says:

To get to the Repeat Assignment for the First Ending, right-click on a handle at the beginning of the First Ending.

2) For the DC al Fine, set a Target:

3) For the Fine set a Pass for Stop:
