Hi all

I am trying to get a playback sound of a toy piano. It isn't in the list of keyboard instruments when you begin creating a notation file. Is this buried somewhere or is there an add-on for this??
Thanks

There are a number of toy piano VIs out there. Google is your friend — look for toy piano library. If you find one in Sound Font format, that can be hosted in the Aria Player that installs with Finale. Many require the full version of Kontakt.

I have the Soniccouture @ $49 that uses the free Kontakt Player.

You don't say what version Finale you have or which operating system, but in my Finale 27 on Windows 10 I have this, which might be close to the sound you are looking for:

If a music box won’t do, here’s an inexpensive, very good set of Schoenhut samples. The guy asks for a $1 donation.

You’ll need to import the samples into any sampler if you have one or convert to a SoundFont (Google is your friend) for use in the ARIA Player included with Finale. It also includes them as an AudioLayer Instrument if you don’t want to bother with those options. AudioLayer is a $9.99 download from the App Store or Windows stores. There are many free samplers that work well with Finale, however, so no need to spend the $10, IMO.

As much as I like the Soniccouture pianos that I have, none sound like a Schoenhut. I’ll be paying this guy his dollar and then decide which of the many samplers I own I’ll use to import them.

If you’ve never used a sampler, the prospect can be intimidating but it’s easier than it seems. I’d much rather use one for this than create a SoundFont (sf2) instrument. One of the best free samplers is SampleTank 4 Custom Shop. All versions of SampleTank use this same instrument, the price differences are how much content is included—CS is free and has 4GB of free content. https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/st4cs/

Here is a video on how to create an instrument from samples in ST4. Easy peasy.

Once done, you would use your player (SampleTank, AudioLayer, Kontakt etc.) instead of ARIA for that one stave and then select your VI from within the player, same as you select the GIFF from within ARIA.
