I'm aware of how to change instruments in the stave (for example trumpet to flugelhorn and then back to trumpet). But right now I have a mallet part (which i have instruments changing in the stave) that i need to put a tambourine part in. 

Is it possible to change from a pitched percussion part to non-pitched percussion in the same stave? and if so how?

Welcome to the forum!

 

I would use the utility:

1) Selection Tool.

Select the region to be changed.

2) Utilities menu > Change Instrument…

 

I just tried it (with Timpani and Tambourine), and it works for me.

It works great when i put it in a timpani part, but i have to fit it in a "mallet" part.  If you could try that for me and is if it works for you that would be great. thanks!

It works (Xylophone to Tambourine).

 

Not sure why you could not have tried it on your own. It doesn't take a minute to create a test project.

I had tested it on my own and it didn't work the first time. After closing finale and trying another test document it did work. So I went and tried it back on the score i was working on, it still did not work. 

Decided to try and see if I moved the score to another computer if it would work. And it did. Weird. Not sure why it happened this way. Got it figured out though. Thanks guys!
