I have the latest upgrade of Finale 2014.5, running on Windows 11. I am aware that is not the latest release, but this version mostly meets my needs.

I opened a midi file of "Danny Boy" into Finale, it had a couple of tracks and a few harmony notes on the melody stave. I deleted all except the melody stave and went through and manually deleted the harmony notes.  I wanted a simple, clean single note melody only.

I now have  nice clean looking single stave sheet with the melody, but .... when I play back,  Finale is playing the harmony notes that were on the stave I retained. In the playback/record dialog box I unchecked everything except "play recorded tempo changes" and "reset repeats".

Playback is with VST using the "Smart synth".  Any thoughts on how I get rid of these "ghost" notes?

Select all, right click, Clear Selected Items, uncheck all but midi data. Perhaps they will clear out any left over notes.

Also check, View > Show > Hidden Notes and Rests. Any hidden notes and rests are either hidden from the score or shown in a shade of gray on the screen, with a different hue for each layer corresponding to each layer’s display color.

Thanks for the tips. View hidden notes is checked, no extra  notes showing up. Clearing the midi data did not help. While playing it back this morning, I noticed it is even playing a pair of notes where I replaced the note with a rest. It's like it is ignoring the score and playing the original file - even though the "play as recorded" button is unchecked.

It may be a matter of how the MIDI was created.
