I have a large file with many time signature changes. It's a method book - and frequently I change my mind about the order of things, or want to add something in somewhere.

I select a measure, "insert measure stack", and anything after that point is somehow decoupled from the time signature - everything is back in 4/4 and phrases that were in 7/4 are now dangling off the page.

How can I insert measures, without it affecting the time signature changes that come after?

Finale 26.3 for mac.

Here is a screenshot of what happens (page break or not; putting in a temporary time signature or not, as Adrian suggested). On page 28, I have added 20 measures in 7/4 - and on the next page it has 'pushed' the 4/4 marking 20 measures along (it should be 4/4 from the top of that page).

Toby, can you post a document where this is happening? You can’t post it here, so put it in Dropbox or similar, and post the link.

What happens if you set a new/duplicate time signature in the measure after the one where you will insert your measure stack?

Thanks Adrian - same result unfortunately.

Toby, I must be doing something wrong. I set up a doc in 4/4. In m. 2, I changed the time sig to 3/4. I double clicked in the 3/4 measure, went to Add Measure Stack, and inserted 3 measures. Those measures were added to the 4/4 section, and the 3/4 measure moved, accordingly. I guess I need a better description of the problem.

That's the right process Mike.

I think what is happening for me, is that when I insert the new measures, it is not retaining the music that follows, and it seems to be irregular. Just now, to see if there was consistency, I tried the following, undoing in between each try:
-  I inserted 10 measures in 4/4, and it completely erased the 3/4 signature on the next page (up till the next time signature).
- I added 10 measures in a 4/4 section, and it affected only the first bar of the next time signature (5/4); then,
- I added 10 new measures in the 5/4 and it affected the first 3 bars of the next 6/4 section.

It's all a bit bizarre.
