Anyone experiencing loss of hairpins and slurs with NotePerformer?  Not the actual shapes, but their ability to affect the notes.  When I begin a score, everything is working perfectly, but at some point in the process, all playback of smartshapes is ignored.  If I switch back to Garritan, everything works fine--if with annoying sound quality--but switching again to NotePerformer leaves smartshapes wriggling on the floor in pain and disgust.  It ain't a pretty sight...

I'm pretty sure the problem is with Finale, but for the life of me can't figure it out.  The only thing that (sort of) works is changing Human Playback/MidiData/Continuous Data and Velocity to No Effect.  Any thoughts?  Is this a known issue?

If you type Noteperformer or Noteperformer3 into the Search field near the top of the page, you will see a number of similar complaints. There doesn't appear to be a global fix. You are not alone.

Arne is working on a NP4, but its release is said to be not imminent. I expect he wants to make sure it is right.

This happens with Garritan PO5, as well (haven't tried GIF).

Score starts off playing the ornaments/articulations, but if you stop and (for example) Space + LMB to play for a specific bar, it stops interpreting all ornaments/articulations in the score.

So, the slurs don't affect the notes, Trills are played as normal Notes.  Turns are played as normal notes.  I don't even think the dynamic markings are affecting the notes.

Something is happening that is causing the application to start ignoring the articulations.

The only way I can get it to work is if I exit Finale and then reopen the score, which is awful because I have to deal with the Library Loading process whenever I play back again (which I guess would be a benefit of moving to NotePerformer, but I don't really like the way it sounds (I've tried it a couple of times)).

EDIT:  Please fix the forum so we don't have to triple-space to double space paragraphs.

Just another one of the myriad annoyances of this forum software. I hope they got it cheap.

Nathaniel, what Human Playback setting are you using?

Baroque. Also happens in Standard.

EDIT:  Apparently, this may be working as intended.

Noteman says: Triggering playback in this way bypasses Human Playback, ignoring all the nuances of articulations and expressions.

But the way the manual website is formatting, it's hard to know for sure if it's referring to both queuing and the Playback Settings dialog, or only the Playback Settings dialog.

Honestly, I wish the software had a proper Reference Guide, as the "Help" is often vague and unhelpful (and Videos are really a massive waste of time as you cannot search them, obv.).

So, my previous observation that changing Human Playback/MidiData/Continuous Data and Velocity to No Effect fixes (somewhat) the problem, that was premature.  Within a few listenings, it went back to its no-bueno state.  One thing that does work (albeit with repeated attempts) is clearing all Midi data and Human Playback additions, then copying the entire score to an empty template.  This new score can be used for playback to save to an audio file with all the NotePerformer and Human Playback working.  A bit of a kludge, but it at least works for saving audio.  It doesn't always work on the first pass, but usually on a second attempt.  YMMV...

Clancy,

Have you tried switching HP whatever back to midi playback, playing it or a few bars then switching it back to HP? If not try it.

We can only hope.

Ernest,

Yep.  Tried that, but to no effect.  I have used that very thing to correct an issue where instrument sound assignments get confused, but it has no effect on the NP/PL problem.

Well that was my one shot to offer any suggestion to help. All I can say is I don't see that issue with my PL SIlver and NP3 or at least not any issue it didn't fix.

Reach out to Jan at Perfect Layout and ask if he knows of any Finale to PL to NP3 issues.
