Hey everyone, I'm using Finale v25 on a MacBook Pro running Catalina. I know my version of Finale is out of support date and is old for my OS. When I enter text through the Lyrics tool or in a text box, Finale will crash if I try to use an accented character by typing it in through the keyboard (Option + ... on Mac). If I go through the Insert Symbol menu, there is no crash.

I frequently type lyrics in Spanish, so using the menus is pretty tedious, but other than that issue, I really have no reason to update my version and no justification for the expense right now.

Had anyone had a similar issue and had a solution for keyboard entry?

Thanks!

Since you’re on a Mac, use the “long press” to get the accents. Hold down the key of the letter. After a moment or two, you’ll get a flyout with the accent options. Tap the number of the one you want. (Not relevant to Finale, but this works on the iPad, as well.)

Thank you! I had completely forgotten about that feature on a Mac. Works like a charm!

Appreciate the help!

The issue is that key combinations often trigger different actions in Finale than a word processor—which can seem counterintuitive when you are in Finale’s Lyric or Text modes.

Glad that MikeR was able to help you.
