I'm inputting notes with a MIDI keyboard at pitch.  One of the instruments is Bb bass clarinet.  I'm playing the actual notes with "display in concert pitch" checked.  If it's not checked, the notes I input are transposed when "display in concert pitch" is unchecked.  The only problem is that the actual pitches are better viewed in bass clef.  Is there a way when switching from one to the other that the clef also changes?  I know I can set the clef in Staff View but prefer not to change it from treble to bass if at all possible.

Randy Schmidt,

Are you still using Finale 2010?

Or have you upgraded to a later Finale version?

Unfortunately I do not have Finale 2010 anymore, and I do not recall how Finale 2010 worked.

Anyway, what you need, is easy to do in later Finale versions:

1) Set the Bass Clarinet staff to Bass Clef.

In that way {Display in Concert Pitch} will switch to Bass Clef.

2) For the staff transposition, choose

(Bb) Up M9, Add 2 Sharps, Treble Clef

What Peter describes is how I remember it from Finale 1998. I had a big project for a band where many of the members could only read in C (guitar players—go figure) but could play brass and winds while others playing the same instruments wanted their notation as normally written. Finale to the rescue!

24 years later, I no longer visualize the screen and the boxes to be checked/unchecked—could be the same that Peter is showing. In any case, it was that easy.

Peter and Mike,

I didn't even try that, which would seem so obvious.  It does work as expected!  Thank you for answering.  BTW, I am still using Finale 2010.  A project I signed up for many years ago is not yet finished but there are thousands or even tens of thousands of lines of Finale Script code that are needed whenever I resume work on the project.  Hopefully I can it done before I croak!
