Here is what I am trying to do. I am working on a piano part that is in 3/4. There are three quarter note chords in one of the measures. All of the quarter note chords are with four pitches except beat three, which is three quarters and two, descending eighth notes. In Level 1, if I go to add an eighth note it turns all of the chord tones into eighth notes.

I tried using Level 2 for just that third beat, and I need to put rests in on beat 1 and 2. Is this my only option. I am using Simple Entry, btw.

Thanks for some suggestions.

You can hide the beat rests on beat 1 and 2.

Another option is the Speedy Entry Tool feature Voice 1 / Voice 2.

If you use V1 / V2, then you do not need rests on beat 1 and beat 2:

In the Speedy Entry Tool, place the crosshair on beat 3.

Launch Voice 2, and enter the two eighths.

In Simple Entry Options…, check Launch Layer Mid-Measure. Then select your beat three chord, and switch to layer two. Rests will be automatically hidden.
