It sounds like a font mixup. Make sure that the font is Maestro 24 plain. If that doesn't fix it, recreate the Preference file.

That’s nothing! How long has CMD-Q been a universal shortcut for Quit? Even though it says so in the menu, instead of quitting, it launches the magnifier!
