Is it possible that the rest should be the reversed eighth rest? Wasn’t that used as a quarter rest in days of yore?

Are you uninstalling and restarting before you reinstall the new download of the same version? (Not necessary for an upgrade.)

Did you get an email acknowledging your request? (It would have been automatic, just a couple of minutes after you submitted.) The reason I ask, is that very often users don’t follow all the way ...

If you haven’t done so already, open a support ticket. Use the Submit a Request link at the top of the page. Do new documents,work properly? If so, you might try copying this doc into a new blank one.

You may need to reinstall the fonts. Or even the entire program.

There's no way that I can find. The only workaround I can think of is to insert a blank staff. Copy, paste, and hide empty staves as needed.
