I don’t know how that pattern relates to pitches or timing, but that looks to me like a graphics program is better suited than Finale.

Could you have inadvertently created another verse? If you turn auto-number off, does it go away?

The OP sent me a PDF, and I ran it through SmartScore. It took about 15 minutes to run it, and make the few corrections. I sent him the XML. Hopefully, he'll report back here with his results.

You use layers. Please look in your help files and/or watch the tutorial videos. Layers are a very basic function in Finale (and PrintMusic) and you must understand their use.
