Another idea : try the - sign (95). It gets superimposed over the 3rd line. Still visible but not much. A dot may also work, hidden by the parentheses.

In my case it makes a (slight) difference. Dont forget to OK the main window to apply it. Still, the parentheses should be very thin, almost vertical.

Either use the demos of Finale or PrintMusic, or download the free Notepad, still available for PC.

... read 4 dotted quarter notes. It can even be done afterwards with Utilities -> Rebeam. And the manual way is the slash key applied to the note on the right.

AFAIK, MakeMusic has not communicated about the compatibility of Finale with Mojave, so I wouldn't rush... Unless you have a copy of Sierra, the only (free) OS available on the Apple site is High S...
