If you find that you are getting click/countoff and the HyperScribe editing frame appears on a measure when clicked on with HyperScribe tool, but no notes are being entered from your MIDI keyboard, there are a couple of things to check.

First, please check whether or not Simple Entry or Speedy Entry is accepting input from your MIDI keyboard. For either tool, make sure that the Use MIDI Device for Input option is selected (Simple > Use MIDI Device for Input | Speedy > Use MIDI Device for Input).

If note entry in either of these other tools is not working, please use this article to instead troubleshoot MIDI input overall: MIDI input troubleshooting.

If note entry in these tools is working, then something is most likely wrong with one of HyperScribe's options.* In some cases, a MIDI keyboard will be configured to send on a channel other than Bank 1 Channel 1. If this is the case, Finale will not receive input from the MIDI keyboard since it looks for input from Channel 1 by default. To fix this, please follow the steps below:

  1. Choose the HyperScribe tool.
  2. Choose HyperScribe > HyperScribe Options. The HyperScribe Options dialog box appears.
  3. Choose the All Channels option from the Receive On section.
  4. Try HyperScribe.

* This specific issue with HyperScribe Options was due to a bug that was resolved with the release of the Finale v27.4 maintenance update.

Once you have HyperScribe working, please check out this article for HyperScribe best practices.
