Attention Mac Users
Apple will release macOS 15 (Sequoia) on Monday, September 16, 2024.
Finale v27 is not compatible with Sequoia and will not be updated.

Some external hard drives formatted to Mac OS Extended (HFS+) may have ownership issues that prevent you from saving your work in Finale. In that case, you may receive one or both of the following error messages:

You can follow these instructions to adjust your sharing and permission privileges in order to resolve the problem:

  1. Open a new Finder window 
  2. Control+click the volume under Locations and select Get Info
  3. Click the arrow next to Sharing & Permissions to show all of the corresponding information
  4. Click the Lock and enter in your user account password to make changes
  5. Check Ignore ownership of this volume

If Ignore ownership of this volume is not available, then you can take these steps instead:

  1. Open a new Finder window 
  2. Control+click the volume under Locations and select Get Info
  3. Click the arrow next to Sharing & Permissions to show all of the corresponding information
  4. Click the Lock and enter in your user account password to make changes
  5. Select Read & Write under the Privileges column for everyone
