Finale Technical Support Has Ended

As of Tuesday, August 26th, 2025, we're no longer accepting new technical support requests.
Browse available support resources here.

You may continue to download & authorize registered Finale products for the foreseeable future.
Additionally, we continue to offer Dorico Pro crossgrades for purchase to eligible Finale & PrintMusic license holders.

This issue can occur for different reasons that depend on how you are using Speedy Entry. Please follow the section below that matches how you use Speedy Entry.

Speedy Entry with MIDI Input

  1. Open Finale.
  2. Choose a file to open, or open a new Default Document.
  3. Choose the Speedy Entry Tool.
  4. Select the Speedy menu at the top of the screen.
  5. If Use MIDI Device for Input is unchecked, click it to check it.
  6. Test note entry.

If that does not work, proceed with the next steps:

  1. In your file, select MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > MIDI Setup (or MIDI/Internal Speaker Setup for Mac).
  2. Ensure your MIDI device is selected as the Input device.
  3. For more on setting this up, see: Getting Started: Set Up a MIDI Keyboard (Video)

If your MIDI keyboard is set up correctly to use with Finale but Speedy Entry still enters rests only, or the device is not listed in the MIDI(/Internal Speaker) Setup dialog box, then follow this guide to troubleshoot your MIDI device's connection: MIDI Input Troubleshooting (No MIDI input signal).
