This issue has been resolved in Finale (Version 25).

There is a known issue in Finale 2014.5 (Mac) that keeps the document window from returning to focus after using dialog boxes (such as the Expression Selection dialog box and others) under certain circumstances. Please choose the option that best describes your workflow to find the workaround that works best for you.

  1. Close Finale 2014.5.
  2. Click the Finder icon on your application dock.
  3. Choose (from the Finder program toolbar) Go > Go to Folder.
  4. Type in the following directory (without quotes): "/Library/Application Support/MakeMusic/Finale 2014.5/Plug-ins".
  5. Click Go.
  6. Click and drag the "FinaleScript" folder out of the "Plug-ins" folder to your Desktop.
  7. Restart your computer.

The focus issue will now be resolved. If you do find down the road that you need FinaleScript, you can use these steps to return to the Plug-ins folder and move the FinaleScript folder back into the program components. Keep in mind this will cause the issue to return. If you need to use FinaleScript, use the steps in the next section "I use FinaleScript regularly" instead to make changes that will help with the focus issue.

  1. Close Finale 2014.5.
  2. Click the Apple icon in the upper, left-hand corner of your screen.
  3. Choose System Preferences.
  4. Open the Mission Control section.
  5. Activate the Displays have separate spaces option.
  6. Restart your computer.

With this setting deactivated, the focus issue will be resolved.
