The change in operating system architecture between Mac OS X 10.9 to Mac OS X 10.10 marked a large change in version compatibility for our products.

All versions of Finale notation products from 2012 and before are not compatible with Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) and newer. As a result, we expect behavior such as crashing on playback and cut-off menu items.

If you are experiencing such behavior as crashing on playback and cut-off menu items, you are most likely running on an unsupported operating system.

If you are using Finale 2012, you can attempt to continue use of the software by deactivating Human Playback (MIDI/Audio > Human Playback > None) prior to editing any file. This, in rare cases, has allowed users to continue using the program without further issues, but is not guaranteed to work long-term.

Finale v.25 is currently compatible with Mac operating systems 10.10 - 10.11. If you are working on an unsupported operating system (per the System Requirements), please try the free trial of Finale (or PrintMusic 2014.5 if applicable). You can use each of the free trials for 30 days, and afterward we recommend that you upgrade your serial number from our store if your computer meets the system requirements.
