I just got a new mac, running El Capitan, 10.11.6.  My Finale 14 won't open.  It crashes after trying to boot for 15-or-so seconds.  FYI, I have downloaded Java, so that is not it.  I need immediate access to my Finale.  don't have money to upgrade.  please tell me there is a solution.

Did you get any kind of error message that might give anyone a clue as to the problem?

Based on what you posted, I'm going to make a couple of blind guesses:

Did you download Java 6 run time? It must be downloaded from Apple or MakeMusic. The Java 8 run time from Oracle does not work with 32 bit applications such as Finale 2014.5 and earlier.

Did you download 2014.5 from your user account or install 2014 from your original DVD? You need 2014.5

Are you on a Mac Mini or a 2013 Mac Pro? If so, plug some headphones in and see if 2014.5 opens now.

Finale 2014.5 is a free update, which may improve things.

2014 is not really compatible with El Capitan; 2014.5 is.

If you log into your user account and download 2014, the version you get is actually 2014.5.
