I am editing hundreds of pages of notation (conventional stave and guitar tab stave) and need to move a million notes on the tab stave to different strings to facilitate ease of fingering. I know that if I select Simple Entry I can option click a note and move it to a new string but it takes on the time value of the note highlighted in simple entry. They are complex scores and it will take me to eternity to select the exact value of each note before moving it.  Years ago I was able to accomplish this with the now defunct Note Mover tool. I simply want to move the note as it is without altering its current duration - surely not too much to ask Make Music. Has anyone got any ideas please before I go mad?

I am afraid I do not understand the problem.

In the Simple Entry Tool I select the TAB note (= Option-click), and hit the DownArrow key or the UpArrow key.

That works, and Finale does not alter the rhythmical value.

Perhaps we need more info from you, like the exact steps you are following.

If I misunderstand you, then I apologize.

Thanks. This has worked. One other question. Because I have music for the violin on the music staff, when I drag the notes down to the tab staff they are 2 octaves lower than they should be. Can I set the tab staff for the document to react as if it's two octaves higher?

2 octaves? That's not right—it should be only 1 octave.

The way I dealt with it was to change the clef on the treble instrument to the octave G (tenor voice) and transpose the notes so that they displayed as before. Drag them into TAB and they should go to the octave you want. When done, correct the clef and notes to where they were before. It's been a long time since I've dealt with this. I no longer remember if I had to place the fiddle part in a new layer before transposing back.

Nicholas Hollings,

We need more info from you:

* When you click the Playback button, then do the two staves play back in the same octave pitch?

Or does the TAB staff play back 2 octaves lower than the Violin staff?

* Do you need the Violin staff and the TAB staff to play in the same octave pitch?

* Or do you need the TAB staff to play 1 octave lower than the violin staff?

* Or?

The better we understand, the better we can help.

I have solved this by selecting the tab staff in Score Manger and transposing it up an octave.
