Any here using ReWire and Pro Tools?  I'm having frequent crashes... usually when I hit play to listen back to what I have added or changed in my score.

Sorry, I was in the middle of a project, and quickly scribbled a question in hopes to get some help!  Here's a little more about the issue.

I've been using Finale and Pro Tools together with the new ReWire functionality.  Finale crashes often when using ReWire and Pro Tools.  When using without ReWire enabled, it is fairly stable.

Typically, Finale will crash when I hit "play" to hear my file.

I have tried hitting play (or using spacebar to play the file) while Finale is active.  I've tried hitting play while Pro Tools is active.  In both cases, Finale will crash at least 2-3 times out of 5.  I can use it fine until I try to playback the file.

Hello,

Thanks for posting!

I am curious about some additional information. Are you using the latest version of Pro Tools (12.7?). Also, what operating system (Mac or Windows) and what version of that operating system are you working on currently? Also, which version of Finale are you using? You can check this by opening the program and choosing Help > About Finale (Windows) or Finale [upper version number] > About Finale (Mac).

Sorry... I could have (and should have) put all of this in my original post...

Finale 25.3.0.276

Pro Tools 12.7.1

OS X 10.12.13 (There is a new update, but I haven't installed yet).

No problem! Thanks for that info.

It actually sounds like you may be running into a fairly new issue. There is a specific part of the latest version of Pro Tools that conflicts with Finale, specifically a DLL called "CFnd.dll". For more information, and a possible workaround, check out this article: Pro Tools 12/Finale v25 crash (Windows).

Since you are using ReWire, the workaround may not quite work as expected, but give it a try. If it doesn't work out, definitely contact our Customer Success team for some more assistance. You can do so using the Submit a request link at the top of this page.

Hope this helps!

Thanks, I'll try that.

Lawson, that does not work. Finale will find the file no matter where you copy it because it is a moniker (i.e., it know that you moved it. Even after rebooting). Just submitted an issue.

Hi James,

Thanks for posting!

Just a head's up that since I posted that response an update for Finale has been released that resolves the crash related to conflicts with CFnd.dll.

If you are experiencing a crash in Finale v25, please make sure that you have the latest version of Finale. The latest version of Finale to date is Finale v25.4.1.

If this doesn't help our Customer Success team can certainly take a closer look at the issue!

Thanks for responding so quickly. That's excellent. Do I need to remove CFnd totally so I can upgrade from the app, or best to just download all?

No problem, James.

Fortunately, you do not need to remove CFnd.dll to update the app, and you can leave that DLL file in place and Finale shouldn't crash once you are on the latest update (v25.4.1).

If you have troubles getting the latest version of Finale, or if the crash persists, please feel free to let us know!
