My Finale 2014, for Mac, repeatedly crashes when attempting to use the Expression Tool & Articulation (meta tools are fine) following an os upgrade.  I've tried downloading 2014.5 twice but the problem continues as before.  I've tried following other posts, but am not certain as to how to proceed, not wanting to make matters worse.  Thank you!

2014.5 does not overwrite 2014. When you look in your Applications folder, you'll see both. Check to make sure that you are launching the version you want.

Hi Martha & Jeff,

Mike has the right of it. This does sound like a version compatibility issue (Finale 2014 can run into issues on Mac OS X 10.11 and later). Finale 2014.5 would be the answer here. You can download the installer for Finale 2014.5 from your MakeMusic account. It will install as a separate app in your Applications folder and will not remove 2014d, so please be sure to launch the new app!

Hope this helps.

I am still confused.  I downloaded 2014.5 in January and it did not work properly.  Are you telling me to try and download it again??

No. Try downloading the current version. It will run in Demo mode. If this does not have the same problem, it's time to upgrade. MM has announced that there are no further updates to 2014/2014.5

So I get to fork out a few hundred dollars, instead of Finale fixing something that's a responsibility on their end? Classic.

on a 5 year old app? 2014 was initially released in 2013, three years before Sierra in 2016.

Yes.

And the upgrade price $149 unless you have PrintMusic—that is $200.

Or maybe it’s the artist who wants everything for free.

Hmmm... Is someone whining because a seven year old version of an app is no longer being upgraded for free?

Oh dear...

I forked out the $$ for an upgrade this year to the latest version and boy, am I loving it!  Worth every dollar and I greatly appreciate the new enhancements.  My favorite is the no collision feature in the articulations.  Thanks, Make Music!

No, someone is whining because an app they paid money for no longer works at all. Never asked for a free upgrade. Imagine if people came to these forums with the intent to help instead of jumping at every chance to be condescending!

So you expect that MM should continually fix legacy apps that were rendered non-working because of a major OS update? Can you give me an example of that?

I have stayed on High Sierra, because the updates meant that SmartScore Pro would not work on the 64-bit operating system. It took them over two years, but they just released the new version. I paid for the new one. Now I can update my Mac.

Mike H and I (and many others) come here regularly to help. But sometimes, the requests that we see lead to our inner snark being released. Don't be absurd, and it probably won't happen.

Yep. Just updated to SmartScore 64, too. Now I can finally update my Mac, too.

I'm probably expecting too much from using logic pro. They've been fixing bugs and updating it for free for 6 years now.

Point #1: Apple designed it as 64-bit, and so it was able to easily update it. 32-bit plugins no longer work. And I'm sure they charged for it, even if you still used Logic Pro 9.

Point #2: Apple has a slightly larger development staff and budget than Finale.

Point #3: When (if) they release a major update, they will charge for it.

Comparing Logic to Finale is like comparing Toyota to Yugo.

You picked a bad example. Logic Pro X is $199.99. If you owned Logic, 7, 8 or 9 like I did, the upgrade price is $199.99. If you didn’t own a previous version, that will be $199.99, please.

There is an Education bundle — still $199.99 but you also get FinalCut Pro X, Main Stage 3, Compressor 4 and Motion 5. Pretty good bargain, actually.

The point of all Apple apps, free and paid, is to get you to buy Apple hardware (those Apps that don’t run on Windows) or services (iTunes, i/Cloud etc). They exist for no other reason. This is not an arguable point.

Last I checked, MakeMusic is not affiliated with Apple. I’m done with this thread.
