Finale 2014.5 new installation on Win7 worked, but after I monkeyed with Edit>>Pref>>Folders>>(I think: Templates), no sound upon playing in Finale, scroll ok, but no sound.

I can export to wave/mid/mp3 and they can be played with MS Media Player, and sound as expected.

How can I reset Folders to installation defaults?

with aid of trouble shooting here, using keyword: no sound, I found that my finale will play one of the musx files using vst but no midi.

but the other musx files will not play with vst or midi.

Perhaps I do need to reset folders to installation defaults?

I can't imagine that being the cause, but it would be a place to start.

I imagine you have already tried restarting Finale.

Have you tried rebooting your computer?

Ok, Thanks JAV; all my musx files will now playback, but only after I individually set them to VST instead of midi. When I then save them, they will open with VST as playback.

Since I don't want to have to change the playback for each of the many musx files, I assume this change can somehow be saved for Finale as an operating default?

Hi Nino:

Sorry to hear you're having problems with MIDI playback. Here's a handy troubleshooting link that our CS team has developed

https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/225272228-Playback-Troubleshooting

Since it is MIDI only and not VST, I'd check your MIDI out device.

  • Make sure that the correct MIDI Out device is selected in MIDI Setup (MIDI/Audio > Device Setup > MIDI Setup).
  • Try using SmartMusic SoftSynth as the MIDI output device, rather than your MIDI device. If SmartMusic SoftSynth works and your MIDI device does not, reference the documentation for your MIDI hardware to make sure it is configured properly. If the issue persists, contact your MIDI device's support team for additional support troubleshooting your MIDI connection.

Hope this helps solve the problem.

Cheers,
