I was hoping the 25.4 upgrade would solve the error issue when importing Music XML file eported from Logic Pro X with circled X notehead (percussion part). Here are the errors Finale is giving me on trying to import -

XML error in file Heat Wave-drums.xml at line 165:
cvc-enumeration-valid: Value 'circle x' is not facet-valid with respect to enumeration '[slash, triangle, diamond, square, cross, x, circle-x, inverted triangle, arrow down, arrow up, circled, slashed, back slashed, normal, cluster, circle dot, left triangle, rectangle, none, do, re, mi, fa, fa up, so, la, ti, other]'. It must be a value from the enumeration.

XML error in file Heat Wave-drums.xml at line 165:
cvc-complex-type.2.2: Element 'notehead' must have no element [children], and the value must be valid.

XML error in file Heat Wave-drums.xml at line 724:
cvc-enumeration-valid: Value 'circle x' is not facet-valid with respect to enumeration '[slash, triangle, diamond, square, cross, x, circle-x, inverted triangle, arrow down, arrow up, circled, slashed, back slashed, normal, cluster, circle dot, left triangle, rectangle, none, do, re, mi, fa, fa up, so, la, ti, other]'. It must be a value from the enumeration.

It must be a value from the enumeration.

Further XML validation errors will be ignored.

HELP!!!! I've got a large project with multiple songs to import to Finale. Other exported XML files with the circled X note head give me the same errors when importing to Finale. And yes, I have the latest Java on my computer (Java 8 Update 131).

John,

Two suggestions: open a support ticket (use the tab at the top of this page) and remove your email address, for security!

If you examine the XML file in an XML editor (or Notepad or the Mac equivalent), what notehead description to you get in line 165. It sounds as if Logic Pro is using a different font-definition or the like in which the circle-x notehead is located in a different slot or with a different descriptor than XML expects..

To what Adrian says. The problem can be in Apple's implementation of MusicXML in Logic and not Finale's. There's a lot of difference among applications as to how it performs. Off the top of my head, I have eight* current apps capable of importing such a file and no two give the same results.

Notepad 2012 is still available for the Mac and it's free.

* Notation: MM/Finale (4 products), Encore, MuseScore, Notion, Overture; DAWs Logic, Digital Performer (export only), Band-in-a-Box 2017. I count the Finale products as one and I'm sure that I am leaving something out.

Thanks to Mike R, Adrian and Mike H for the quick responses. I actually also opened a support ticket and got a response from MakeMusic Customer Success. I will have to work on the suggested solutions. Way back in 1987(?- I think) I was a beta tester for Finale, and have been using it, teaching it, and an advocate for it. This particular issue has me stumped - so I am glad that I was able to check in with this forum and with MakeMusic. I will post again if I have success on the work-arounds. Thanks.

Hi John,

Thanks for posting!

I'm glad that you were able to get up and running on a thread with our technical support team - that is definitely the right thing to do in this case so we can investigate the errors further!

Just a quick note to say that I've removed your email address from your original post. For your security, please avoid posting secure information like serial numbers and email addresses on the public forum. No worries though, we've got it edited out - just a head's up! (Edit: Looks like you got to it already. That'll teach me to refresh the page! Thank you for taking the time to do so, and thanks again for posting!)

Hoping that your issue gets resolved soon.
