I can't agree more with everyone who is displeased.  I have had Finale software since the 80's, yes from the start.  I have always considered Finale as the very best notation software, even when Sibelius offered a switch over for a very inexpensive fee.  I have relied on the import of TIFF files all these years for my teaching and performing career and now you take that feature away?  I thought I was getting the top upgrade but I was wrong.  Finale 2014.5 using Mac Sierra has been such a disappointment.  Difficult to see the icons but most of all - no TIFF importing.  How could you take that away?!  You should be so ashamed to let down serious composers and arrangers as myself.

The TIFF import is still in 2014.5; it was removed in F25 due to concerns about copyright violations. What happened was that somebody complained, and basically, Finale folded. Just about nobody (except maybe the lawyers) are happy.

On the other hand, many of us made the additional investment in the pro version of SmartScore, rather than the Lite version that was packaged with Finale in the past. The difference is unbelievable. Being able to edit the recognized score in SmartScore before bringing it into Finale has sped up the work by an indescribable factor. I would suggest that you take a look at the various versions of SmartScore, and see which one will work best for you. Remember, as a Finale owner, you can buy SS at a 50% discount.

As has been posted, SmartScore Lite is still there in Finale 2014.5. You need to download the Java Run Time Environment (JRE) 6 from Apple or MakeMusic to make it work — but it does when you do.

What it doesn't do is scan directly from the app but that hasn't worked properly since OS 10.6 and not at all since 10.7. You need to scan using Image Capture.app, part of the Mac OS — that has worked properly since OS 10.8,2 (I worked with Apple to make that happen).

Musictek's Music-to-XML product was to have been bundled with 25 but that was scrapped just as Mike R explained. It's available separately but SmartScore X2 Pro is much better. Here's more info:

In the old Finale days, I could write a forum post regarding a problem and would get almost immediate helpful responses..... Now, I get the "Waiting for approval" notice.  Finale really has gone downhill.

What are you talking about? If it's finaleforum.com, that is a user run board not affiliated with MakeMusic. Like most such boards, they have to make certain that you are not a spambot before letting you make your first post.

Sometimes the people who complain the most know the least.
