Hello i need to split measures (with dots after beat 4) of a whole tune.

I have 2 problems i am seeing.

1 - when i split the measure with the split measure plug in, the measure becomes 2 measure, i need the 2 split measures to count as one in the measure count (as the original measure). How do i do that?

2 - i have a composition of more than 200 bars for orchestra, when i try to split measure for more than one bar it says i cant.

Is there a way to split the measures of the whole tune in few steps? do i really need to do it for each measure? it would take me 4 or 5 hours...

there must be a way to do it.

I was trying to copy the split measure but i cant find a way to copy it. Is there a way to paste and copy only the split measure?

Any advice would be highly appreciated

thanks

matteo

P.S. i use finale 25 with mac el capitan

You can set measure attributes to not include in measure numbers.

I’m not sure what you mean in the second request. Can you try to explain, again? Remember, you can always split measures manually, without using the plugin.

Can you post a picture of what you want to do?

That is really strange - I do not get the same result:

When I split a measure with the Split Measure plug-in, all the measure numbers remain correct - since the plug-in automatically de-selects “Include in Measure Numbering” for the second “half-measure”.

Dear Mike

i guess i was not clear.

I have a very long composition, and i tried to select more than 1 measure at a time to do the split measure, but finale wont let me.

My question is is there a quick way to split 200 measure all at once?

is it possible to copy and paste only the split measure with the dots over the whole tune?

i dont have time to click each measure of my composition to split it

i mean there must be a quick way to do it, i cant think that do it bar per bar is the only way possible.

thanks

Why do you need to split 200 measures? Can you show us an example? Except in hymnals, I have found split measures to be rare.

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do. Are you sure you want to split the measures? It almost sounds as though you're trying to rebar the piece, e.g. turn 4/4 into 2/4. Perhaps you could post your piece and be clearer about what result you want.

I get the impression Matteo is trying to do something like this by splitting measures.

Matteo, if I am wrong, please give us an image of what you are after. I did this by alternating measures of 2/4 and 5/8, but I still had to change the dashed measure lines one at a time, not an efficient problem.

(Dorico can do this composite as one time signature with an automatic dashed bar line, but at present there are still many things that would require serious work-arounds in Dorico, so I don't think one would save work by switching.)

I know Dorico can already do this! It should be possible in Finale, though, by creating an empty document with this time signature in the first measure(s) and then copying it in one go using stack selection to the rest of the document. Then I'd copy and paste the existing document into the new one. Without seeing the OP's file, we're just guessing...
