Finale Printmusic 2014: Text tool - cannot drag text to desired location

This extremely weird issue just started happening a couple of days ago.

If I am in Score mode and enter a text value attached to a system, I cannot drag it to the desired location. No matter which direction I drag the mouse, or how far, the text block wanders off in a west-southwest direction.

Here is a GIF of the behavior:

How can I get it to drag to where I want the text to be? As I said above, it has always worked fine until just a couple of days ago when it suddenly started behaving like this for no apparent reason.

Whenever it used to work, but now it doesn’t...

step 1. Restart the computer

If that doesn’t fix it,

step 2. Trash the preferences

If I recall correctly, the culprit is the pickup measure, created as a document setting, using the feature “Pickup Measure”.

In Other Words:

The problem is specific for pickup measures.

The feature “Pickup Measure” is very old, and is has its share of problems, like in-correct playback (it plays as a full measure), and in-correct tuplet copying.

As a workaround you can let the first measure be a full measure (= no pickup measure), and adjust the first barline’s horizontal position so that the first measure looks like a pickup measure.

In the “full Finale” you can avoid the problem by, instead creating the pickup measure with the Time Signature Tool.

Unfortunately the solution is not possible in PrintMusic.

Have you considered an upgrade to the “full Finale”?

The least expensive route I know from PrintMusic to Finale is directly through your MakeMusic account (don't use the Chrome browser for this).

You might want to call Musicians Friend. They show the F25 upgrade at $119, but I don’t know if that’s only Finale->Finale, or if they have a price for PM->Finale.

They are pretty good people.

That's Finale–Finale or a crossgrade from a competing product (Sibelius, Encore etc.). You get an upgrade code and link upon purchase and have to submit the old or competing serial number. No idea if it will accept or reject a PM license. (I do know that Chrome doesn't like this from firsthand experience).

Thanks for the info. That was exactly the issue - I cleared the pickup measure and fixed up my pickup notes, and I was then able to drag as normal.
