Hello,

I would like to sync Finale to a movie which is mp4 (Finale manual says this is an accepted format), but I am at a loss on how to do this. According to Finale I am to learn this through a the Tutorial ArnoldsPark.MUSX which is to be found in the Tutorials folder. But alas, this Tutorial is not there. Not on my Finale 26 anyway. Can someone please shed light on this issue. please?

Finale 26.3.1.643

MacBook Pro 15-inch, 2017 2.9 GHz running Mojave 10.14.6

Movie I'm trying to work with is an mp4 format

Thank you!

- Mark

The Movie window in Finale has been deleted. As far as I know the only option is to use Rewire to sync Finale with a DAW and play the movie in the DAW.

This applies to both 25 and 26.

Rewire is discontinued but there are older mirror sites that still have it. It would be nice if MM would address that.

Mike, I'm confused. Where has this happened? Are DAW's no longer supporting it?

It was announced in 2019 that ReWire is gone in 2020. Other than that, I have no idea what is going on.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReWire_(software_protocol)

Rewire

ReWire is a system for streaming audio and MIDI from one application to another. The Rewire API has support for audio and MIDI streaming, positioning information, user action events (play, stop, loop points etc.) and more between the wired applications.

Rewire is being retired during 2020.

The only apps I use it with is Finale into Digital Performer. At the moment, everything works fine for me. I am concerned going forward, however.

Wow, that's a shock. I wonder if that is why Steinberg is working on its audio engine and Dorico has not committed to Rewire support.

Presumably Finale, knowing the situation, is working on some solution, perhaps with other vendors equally affected.

The Wikipedia article is not totally clear. Could it be only the support of Rewire in Reason's products ?

One can hope.

ReWire is gone from Propellerhead's Reason Studios except for a Windows Vista bug fix and it's been removed from Apple's App Store. Likewise the support blogs and chat threads at Reason are gone.

The components are still bundled with Finale and many DAWs. So, as long as the components are still installed, it will work. At the moment, none of this is changed:

What does that mean for the future? I have no idea and no one I know has a clue. Perhaps companies will still be able to develop and integrate it with their products. ReWire has been closed to developers not employed by companies registered to work with Propellerhead/Reason products.
