Hi -- i'm getting back to using Finale again now that I've upgraded to Catalina. I don't know why but i can't seem to get Garritan instruments to show up in my score manager as before. When i poke around i come across a page on the Finale site saying Garritan is not compatible with Catalina. Is that your experience?

Do you have the latest Aria Player, which is 64-bit, since the older, 32-bit version will presumably not play on Catalina.

Hi -- I have Version 1.959, which seems to be the latest version. Is it not?

Version 1.959 is indeed the latest version (at least in Windows).

  1. Have you tried Reassign Playback Sounds in the MIDI/Audio menu?
  2. If that doesn't work, are you sure the plug-in is installed in the correct folder in your new configuration? I have Finale on my Mac and Garritan works for me under Catalina, but others here are a lot more experienced than I using Finale on the Mac.

re-assign doesn't do anything except let it pick patches from what's already available (in my case SmartSynth).

I'm not sure what should be in what folder. It looks like Finale v26's files are all in a folder buried in Application Support. There's a plug in folder there and, no, i don't see anything relating to Garritan or Aria in it.

oh wait....in the top level of the Application Support/Makemusic folder, there's the 'Finale 26' folder. But then there's a 'Finale' folder that contains 'Installer Components', and in there are 'GarritanARIAPlayer' and 'GarritanInstrumentsForFinale'. Do i need to move them somewhere??

If you have not already, you should use the "Submit a request" link at the top of the page to contact MakeMusic Support about this directly. Perhaps it is as simple as reinstalling Garritan and then Finale onto your upgraded OS to reset the links.

Yes, you want to do a complete reinstall into the default locations, then reboot.

If the problem is corrupted paths, a Safe Boot (hold the Shift key then log into your User account when prompted) followed by a reboot after the desktop rebuilds will clear that up. This often cleans up small issues and would surprise me if it fixed this.

MM have confirmed to me that the only issue with Garritan libraries on Catalina and later is with the installer for the CFX piano.

All other Garritan libraries work fine.
