My product is Finale 2011.  I want one TAB staff in standard tuning and another in Nashville tuning.  When I change the frequency of the strings on the Nashville tuning TAB staff, the frequencies of the strings on the Standard tuning staff also change.  I honestly cannot believe my eyes (and ears) and hope there is a simple fix for this!  Please tell me if you know.  If you have a different version of Finale and know how to do it in that version, let me know as well.  BTW my operating system is Windows 2000 XP.  It's ancient but is better than any other version of Windows that has come out since.

XP notwithstanding (my least disliked build of Windows), we need a little more info about what you are trying to do.

Are you trying to have one document where one staff is in Spanish tuning and another staff in Nashville? If not, what are you trying to do?

Hi, Mike.

I want one staff in Standard Tuning E-A-D-G-B-E and one in Nashville Tuning (E+12)-(A+12)-(D+12)-(G+12)-B-E.  When I change one staff in the file the other one also changes.  I still cannot believe the software automatically does this.  Is there a way to force it to only change the one staff and not both?

The newer versions of Finale have numerous TAB presets, although it appears that 2011 only hd the one. I wonder if you could use one “regular” TAB staff, and one of the others, that you altered to fit your needs.

Why not download the demo, and try it?

Hi, Mike.

First, to answer your question, I am a firm believer in NOT "fixing" something that works.  That is why my operating system is Windows XP and is also why I still use Finale 2011: Windows XP is far better than ANY of the absolute garbage Microsoft has put out since its inception and Finale 2011 does most of what I need so I'm not in a hurry to change anything.  However, this nonsense that I've stumbled upon with not being able to have multiple TAB staves with different tunings is a predicament.  I can't believe the simpletons at Finale designed the software this way back then.

You insinuated things have changed since 2011.  Are you telling me in so many words Finale 2011 does not allow composers to use different tunings but subsequent versions do?

Up until now, I've always been strict as a composer and as a performer about having the same tuning for all guitars for each composition.  Deciding to use Nashville Tuning in at least two of my compositions is going to cause that internal restriction to come crashing down.

If I cannot have different tunings on TAB staves in Finale 2011, I just won't create the files.  This will save me a lot of work so it may be a blessing in disguise.

Thank you for paying attention to my post and for wanting to help.  I never posted anything before so I did not know if anyone would reply.  Thank you again.

Matt

All I’m saying is “I don’t know, here’s a possible cause, and here’s a possible solution, with a way to try it.”

There have been many changes to Finale since 2011. Whether they help in your specific case, I can’t say. But I suspect if you simply look in the help files for TAB in both 2011 and v. 26, you would see many more possibilities.

It certainly doesn’t matter to me if you are still running a decade-old product on a decade-old operating system. But keep in mind that, with people not upgrading, what incentive (or financial wherewithal) is there to continue developing the product?

I just received a message from a poster on the other Finale forum, at finaleforum.com. He does not patronize this forum, but occasionally looks it over.

If you go to that forum, register, and post your question, he says it can be done in 2011.

One of the new features regularly touted in Finale upgrades over the years is improvements in TAB.

I still have a copy of 2011 but would have to install an OS into a 2008 iMac sitting in a corner to run it. Not curious enough and too busy to do it for this. I gave away my last Win machine a couple weeks ago to someone who needs it worse than I do. I haven't needed Windows for anything since my former employer went away from Lotus Notes well over a decade ago. After that, I used it only for testing apps for others including here.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

Matt Lae,

What you are experiencing, is probably just finaleforum’s way of avoiding spam bots.

Wait for a while, and then try again.

Befor you can create a post, you must tell the forum, in what sub-forum you want to create a post.

You do so by going to that sub-forum - e. g. the sub-forum General Finale Help.

When you are there, you should find a button called “New Topic”.
