I've seen some other posts about this, so I know I'm not the only one - is there a solution to the problem that exists when you work on a laptop, don't have a number pad, and the numbers at the top of the QWERTY keyboard don't work to add dynamics? If I'm in my studio, I have an external keyboard with a number pad, and it works every time. But when I'm remote, like today, I'm so frustrated.

I have seen that you can press ctrl + [number], and that does work, but it's hardly a fix.

I have a Dell XPS 15 9500, months old, and am running Finale 26. Anybody else suffering through this?

There is a specific laptop keyboard setup. However, if you use the desktop set at home, and the laptop set on the road, I can understand the frustration having to make the mental switch.

The only solution I can suggest is a USB numberpad for the laptop. I carry one when I have to travel.

This is a long standing issue — we're talking decades.

No, it's a workaround. A fix implies that something is broken. No, I don't know the reason but you have observed the way it is. If you Google this, you'd find thousands of complaints going any years.

As MikeR has suggested, a stand alone keypad is a more convenient workaround. Type wireless keypad into an Amazon search to get 3,000+ results with many choices in the $17 range.
