Okay, so I just got Finale again after not having it for quite some time (let's say maybe 5 years).  Back when I had it (not sure which version) when I used speedy entry on a PC (typically to take a piece of music already written to create an accompaniment), I would go through the entire song and enter rests that matched the duration of the note I wanted to enter.  I then would go back and using the arrow keys and ENTER, I would put the notes in, create chords, ect.  I am not seeing how to do this on the current version.  I just want to be able to insert the rests then go back and enter the notes with the arrow keys and enter.  Can anyone help me?  Thanks.  Oh, BTW I'm on a Mac.

This seems like not a very efficient way of working. Why not just copy the melody from your top staff into the accompaniment staff. Then change the pitches as needed.

Efficient or not, I am still trying to figure out why I cannot enter notes with the ENTER key by moving to the correct pitch with the arrow keys.

From your posts it's still not clear what you need.

 

Regardless, if I have rests in a measure that I want to change to notes, I press Fn-Return, that turns them into notes. I'm on a Mac laptop.

One of the downsides, unfortunately, of doing this on a laptop when combined with a MIDI keyboard is that fn-return to invoke Enter is not possibly unless you're an octopus. I ended up having to buy a numerical keyboard with an Enter key, which solved the issue.

Yep. This goes back decades to the Mac Plus which came with a numeric key pad.

 

Although there are workarounds (for many years there weren't), a numeric key pad is the ideal solution.
