I've got Finale v27, and am running Windows 10 pro. Often when I'm using the chord tool, I want to switch to anther tool, like Speedy Entry, or the Measure tool. I click the tool I want to go to, but the chord tool remains highlighted, and won't let me switch to another tool. Do I need to do something to get out of the chord tool? This only happens with the chord tool.

Welcome to the forum!

An idea:

Make sure that there are no Chord Tool dialog boxes open.

MELISSA & ROBERT,

I would say you may have a faulty installation. There can't be any Chord boxes left open because Windows gives me the famous Windows chime if you click on something else and not the open dialog box. I would first start by trashing your Finale Preferences.

To delete the Finale preference file
  1. Choose Finale > Preferences . The Preferences dialog box appears.
  2. Click the Reset All Preferences button. Finale prompts you to confirm the reset.
  3. Click Yes.
  4. Save your work and Finale shuts down.
  5. Re-launch Finale. The Finale Preferences file is re-generated with default settings.

How are you trying to switch out of the Chord Tool? Please post screen shots if necessary.

Mike H,

I can't see why or if that could be a problem because when a dialog box is open you can't click or select anything else until you close it. Windows chimes every time you might  try.

My mind reading skills are obviously not up to your level, Ernie. Since there's more than one way to enter and exit the Chord Tool, I'll wait to see if the OP answers my question.

Mike as I see it there is only one way. Do you know of more than that? Until you click OK or Cancel you can't do anything outside the dialog box. Am I missing something or not understanding the problem, often the case!

But you can't click anywhere else other than inside the Chord dialog box. You must close it by OK, Cancel or the X.

Unless you are in a dialogue box, the ESC key should put you back in the selection tool, and you can switch tools from there.

Ok, I’m typing chords into the document and notice a mistake in the music, so I want to correct it in Speedy Entry. I just upgraded from Finale 2014, in which all I had to do to get out of the chord tool is click on another function (such as Speedy Entry). With this version, I click on Speedy Entry and nothing happens. I’m still in Chord entry. From what I read above, it appears that I need to select the selection tool before I can switch to Speedy Entry. Thanks for the feedback.

Huh — really? Do you run any keyboard macro or switching apps that could be getting in the way?

I no longer have a Windows machine but I do not have to add that extra step on the Mac. As I mentioned earlier, there's more than one way to switch Tools and I've seen no change over the last 30+ years in that regards.
