Finale 27.3.0.160 Mac. Running on MacOS 14.0 Sonoma, MacBook Air M2.

All of a sudden I am unable to add a new staff/instrument in the Score Manager. I am looking at the instrument list. Everything looks normal. I click on Add Instrument but no pull down menu appears.

I can add staves in scroll view, the old way. But so much more work.

Wonder if recent upgrade from Ventura to Sonoma triggered that. I have a few other apps with newly developed interface quirks.

Just discovered that I also can't open the pull down menu to change instruments on existing staves. Also in Score Manager.

Could you do this before you updated to Sonoma?

I wish I could be 100% that this happened after MacOS upgrade. Let's say 90% sure. MacOX update was the only known thing that changed on my machine lately.

Another indication is that at least two apps I also use (Cinema4d, GraphicConverter) are now unusable. Both apps have strange interface behavior.

I have only one Mac with Sonoma but my wife has it at her work so I can't check it out. My Ventura machines don't have this issue.

My workhorse Mac Studio is not going to Sonoma till a number of apps are updated including Band in a Box and Digital Performer. When my iMac Pro gets back from the shop with its new screen (oops — thank goodness for the AppleCare $99 deductible!), I will update that to Sonoma for testing before I wipe and sell it.

With Ventura, Apple sandbagged the MacOS into its own volume. It is possible to downgrade Sonoma to Ventura without a complete Time Machine restore of everything else. Unfortunately, I cannot find an Apple Support document that explains how to do this — others that purport to tell you how each insist that you buy some app or utility that you do not need.

It would probably take a day for me to test and write it up but that time will not be available for a couple weeks or more.

If you really, really need to roll back, best to contact Apple for instructions. It is best to make a Ventura Installer first.

Copy and paste the Terminal Commands from this page, do not type them in.
