I cannot type lyrics into a new score in finale 25.

I AM able to open an old document and it will type lyrics anywhere, as it always has.

Any ideas how to correct this

Just a guess - make sure you are in the same layer as the notes you want to add lyrics to are in.

I have EXACTLY the same situation as Rick Hagee..... I can type lyrics into a score which I created with an earlier version, but cannot type lyrics into either the lyrics box or into the score.  The systme acts like I am entering something, but nothing shows, and nothing is there when I go to look at it.  I am facing a deadline to have hymns ready for this Sunday and $%^&* Finale is failing me.  Helllllp.......

Hi Randolph

What system are you running? Windows or Mac?

If you bring up the Lyrics Window, what *exactly* happens when you try to type in the text entry area

After you have typed text in the text entry area of the lyrics bos, can you 'select' the text by holding down the shift key and using the cursor keys

Randolph,

Here is the reply I received from the Finale support team.   It worked immediately for me.

Rick

1. Save all of your work and get ready to exit the program

2. Choose EDIT>preferences(windows)

3.  Click the reset all Preferences button at the bottom of the preferrences window.

4.  When prompted with a message asking if you are sure you would like to continue choose YES.

5.  Once the program has closed, restart your computer.

6.  Prelaunch FINALE and test if the issue is resolved.

FAaaaaaaannnnnnnntastic......  I tried it and it worked for me too.  I sure thought I was dead in the water, so thanks for the lead.  It sure beats that jury-rigged thing I did this morning to make music..... take an old hymn which was in 4/4, copy my effort into it, which was in 3/4, fiddle around a while, but at least I could enter lyrics!!!!!  I forget what else I tried, but your solution is by far the best. Thanks again.

I couldn't believe how buried that command was!

I have not yet updated my other computer (MAC)

Hoping this won't be an issue there!

You saved my bacon today Rick Hagee.  Thanks so much!

lyrics entry stopped working in any way following the copying of a measure that involved lyrics.
after experimentation and nothing worked, i saved, restarted Finale 27 and re-opened the score, and lyrics worked without changing anything.    Finale is very fragile for the combination/sequence of commands/operations

I have had probably six versions of Finale (for Mac).  By far the worst tool is the Lyrics tool!  I suspect Finale doesn't dare re-create that tool because it would involve correcting the Lyrics tool in earlier versions.  So we keep getting a flawed Lyrics tool.

You clearly do not need to use the MIDI editor. :-)

It’s no worse in 27 then it was ten years ago. No better, either. We’ve been promised a rework of the lyric tools for years. And we’re still waiting.

If you’re having a specific problem, maybe we can help.
