I am trying to scan sheet music into Finale from my HP 8600 all in one printer/scanner. I using a Mac with OS El Capitan Version 10.11.6 as the operating system. The video on scanning says to scan the sheet music into a folder and then select Scanning Smart Scroe Lite but there isn't any such entry to select from in the File menu. So, I'm stuck.

Can someone help?

What version of Finale?

Scanning and TIFF import have been removed from Finale 25.

I'm using Finale 2014.5 I have to go to force quit to even quit the Finale program--quit isn't even bright in the menu.

Go to File->Import->SmartScore Lite Scan

Mike and Darrin, thank you for your posts.

Darrin, I can click on Import, but the SmartScore Lite Scan isn't bright--won't launch with a click. I can get to the preview page in Smart Score Lite, but then the system hangs up. I've see the recognition page, but can't seem to get there now.

Hi Mary

Have you checked to see if there is an update for the drivers for your printer?

Alternatively, scan the music using something like Image Capture (https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204790 will give you details.)

Save the images as Tiff files (300 DPI, greyscale) and then in Finale go to File->Import->Tiff File

You might have some success that way.

If the driver update, or importing images directly do not work, then contact support (scroll to the top of the page. Next to your user name is written "Submit a request) click on that to contact customer support. Thay may be able to help further.

Ahhh... I have SmartScore Pro. Same problem—the instructions are out of date and assume that you have a PPC.

Use Image Capture.app to scan. Now you will be able to convert and import it.

I have tried 3 scanners so far and my Finale Print Music 2014.5 is not recognizing any of the scanners. What am I doing wrong? I have a OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 operating system and I am using a HP Photosmart C4700 series scanner. Please help! I need to scan a lot of music of different instrumentation arrangements =(

Finale on the Mac will not recognize your scanner, You should use Image Capture.app.

Musitek's instructions for SmartScore (all versions) assume a PPC, OS 10.5 or earlier. They do have the correct instructions for OS 10.6 and later buried in there but they aren't very well written and are outdated.

SmartScore Lite isn't very good. If you need to scan a lot of arrangements, consider SmartScore X2 Pro. $199.00 from https://store.makemusic.com/Store/

You will still need to use Image Capture.app on a Mac. It works extremely well from OS 10.8.2 on.
