Finale 2014d.v5545 is crashing when I click on either the expression tool or the articulation tool (and perhaps more). I'm on a Mac OS 10.11.6.
When I went into Finale and asked for upgrades available, I was told that Finale Version 25 was available. I saw nothing about 2014.5. When I tried to purchase Version 25 (for $149 + $25 for the media kit) I was then told that no upgrades were available for my version. Crazy. In the first place, I find it hard to swallow that to get my Finale program working correctly with my OS I have to spend that amount of money. Is there a way I can search out 2014.5 and get that for free? How do I specifically search for 2014.5? Thanks.
Technically, 2014.5 is an update, not a new version (well, it is but...). The official name is still Finale 2014.
When I log into my account, I can find Finale 2014—no listing for 2014.5. However, when I click on Download, it is build 2014.5.7098.0 (2014.5) — this is what you want. When you install, it does not overwrite 2014d — odd since it's an update but that's the way it is.
If that does not work for you, contact Support for a download link. 2014 (2014.5) is still being supported.
Hi Nick
Occasionally it is necessary to trash Finales' preferences.
Follow the instructions in the following link (use the instructions for Windws Vista/7/8) https://usermanuals.finalemusic.com/Finale2014Win/Content/Finale/Finale_Preferences.htm
That *may* resolve your issue.
Cheers...
Daz :o)
For 4 or 5 months, Finale 2014.5 6359 has worked fine. Then last month it started to crash, sends report, I relaunch the auto-save file, and continue on. It seems like it crashes when trying to use the shape tool or add accent. Today it crashed 12 to 15 times while trying to enter just 2 pages. Not sure what is going on. Please help.
Thanks. Rick F

your best bet will be to go to F25. I don't think you can get 2014.5 anymore. Generally, once they introduce a new version, the old ones are gone.
If you have 2014, log into your MM user account. The download will say 2014 but it will be 2014.5. It will install alongside 2014 and will not overwrite. The icons and aliases look nearly identical.
'If you're really running 2014.5, ignore the above. Something else is going on.
Ok, it appears that 2014.5, while being Sierra compatible (unless you resize the toolbars — don't!), is not expected to work in High Sierra due out in a week or two.
I don't know if, once you upgrade to 25, you can still download 2014.5. I can but I have multiple licenses and the one I upgraded to 25 is not the one I upgraded to 2014.
I had the same problem on Windows, but maybe this can also help Mac users.
All was due to UI Scaling, I have multiple displays that output higher resolutions, for example at 4K text become hard to read, so I'm scaling the UI about 150%, the problem is that this broke the expression tool where if I double clicked Finale would crash.
The solution? I right clicked the Finale executable, went to the compatibility tab and clicked on "override high DPI scaling behavior.", and that solved the problem. Other software like Ableton Live and Knights Of The Old Republic experienced similar issues with UI scaling.
Hope this helps guys, take care.
