I'm using OSX 10.9.5 and Finale 2011.

I have two measures, one in 2/4 the other in 3/16.

I want to combine them into one measure of 11/16.

I want to preserve the beaming  and everything else,

that is to say, no rebeaming, no changed rests etc.

This is an orchestral score so a lot of information will be affected and this is just one instance of many.

How do I do this?

Thanks

David

Does the beaming pattern stay the same, or does it vary? If it varies, I don't think you can preserve the beaming.

I would set up a composite time signature of 2/4 + 1 dotted eighth (4+4+3 16ths), set to display as 11/16. If you apply this new signature to 2 measures (a 2/4 and a 3/16), then rebar those 2 measures, you'll end up with a 11/16 measure plus an empty measure, which you can delete. You can copy this to other similar measure pairs (Edit Filter>Copy Time Signatures), but rebarring will be necessary each time. I tried this and it works, but my test may be out of the context of your actual notation.

It's likely there is a better way and maybe someone will suggest it. Meanwhile, make a copy of your file to experiment with.

I haven't been able to display 11/16, my options are 9/16 or 12/16 but it skips over 11/16. ???

I suppose that you are using the “full Finale” - right?

And you are talking about the dialog box Time Signature - right?

What you describe, is what happens, if you set the Beat Duration to a Dotted Quarter.

Finale 26, WIndows 10.

It'll do 11/8 but not 11/16.

WTF i just found it. Apparently random scrolling back and forth along the Beat Duration gives different choices.

A smart program wouldn't jump from 8ths to 1/2 notes to 16ths to quarters...

Thank you for your time.

It looks like the Mac version (of the dialog box Time Signature) is a little more user friendly than its Windows version counterpart.

In the Mac version the dialog box displays the Beat Duration as a (small) graphic.
