Today a strange problem started on Speedy Entry. When I enter notes in a measure of 4/4 time it continues to accept at least 1 more beat before moving to the next measure.

I'm using Finale 2014.5 on a Windows 10. This has never happened until today.

Can you send an image. ALT-PrtScr will copy an image of the active screen window onto the clipboard, which you can then paste into Paint to crop and (if helpful) edit.

Once we see the image, we can, perhaps, offer more help.

(Is it possible you have 5/4 told to display as 4/4 in the time signature tool?)

Also check that you have "Jump to next measure" and "Check for extra notes" switched on in the Speedy Entry menu. (Hitting the right arrow will cause it to jump to the next measure, but should bring up a warning dialog, unless Check for Extra notes is off).

As mentioned below, it may also be that you have a hidden time signature change somehow.

The best way to get a diagnosis is perhaps to post the Finale file so that we can open it.

When I start in Speedy Entry, it's coming up with rests.  I can't get it to switch to notes.

I use Finale 25 on Windows 10.

Assuming you are entering notes from the computer keyboard

Speedy menu>Use MIDI Device for Input: must be UNCHECKED

Even though Finale is designed to automatically find a MIDI keyboard if you have one, I found that when I re-installed Finale 25.2 recently I had to go into MIDI/Audio > MIDI Setup and manually point it to my MIDI interface. For me this is likely due to some other software I have installed that confused the auto-setup, but if all else seems to fail, you might try taking a look in MIDI/Audio > MIDI Setup to check your device assignment.
