Finale 27.4.1. I very often work with songs, with lyrics. Several times, I am attempting to make final pages of music from Scrolling for printing, but measures disappear completely. I try to do something with the lyrics, but no dice at all. Any thoughts?

… I am attempting to make final pages of music from Scrolling for printing …

If I understand you correctly, you are using Scroll View - right?

This means that you are trying to avoid Page View - right?

It seems to me that it is much easier to use Page View “to make final pages of music” (rather than using Scroll View).

Page View also means “Print View”.

* Are you trying to print the score, or are you trying to print a linked part?

(Document menu > Edit Score)

(Document menu > Edit Part > …)

No promises, but it could not hurt to create multimeasure rests:

Selection Tool.

Edit menu > Multimeasure Rests > …

I, too, do not quite understand. Trying to make print outs from Scroll View would be impossible, IMHO. Are we on the wrong thought or track?

If you are using Page View to print out and measures are getting lost that's different and has a different solution.

Many thanks for your fine comments!

I've always have used Scroll view, and never Page View, since Scrolling works better for me to compose music, work with songs, and about everything else. After working with Scroll View, I would always go to Page View to arrange my final drafts, which allows me to get all where I want it to be. If you always use Page View instead, of what use is Scroll View?

Thanks as always.

Ed, I generally work like you do: scroll view for note input, and then to page view for layout and final editing. But everyone has their own preferences and methods.

Ed, I am in agreement as I do the same when composing or arranging. That makes a lot more sense and now where we can target our help if possible.
Ok, what you are saying is measures disappear when you switch to Page view from Scroll view? I can’t say that has ever happened to me but let’s see exactly your steps and perhaps the offending file.
Can you u/l it to Dropbox or Google drive or mine or MikeR email.

Have you Updated Layout when switching?

Wow, Mike! It's so good to "meet you" here! This is grand!

Well, Mike, I will try the "Update Layout," as you suggest. Before I bought Finale 27, the previous Finale version didn't make use of "Update Layout" at all.

(You did me a world of good, Mike, on numerous occasions!)

Ed,

Did you try my suggestion of creating multimeasure rests ?

Multimeasure rests are only displayed in Page View (not in Scroll View).

You tell that some measures “disappear completely” when you switch from Scroll View to Page View.

The lost measures may be hidden inside a multimeasure rest.

Re-creating multimeasure rests will break the multimeasure rest where it contains non-empty measures.

Ed as far as I know Finale has always had Update Layout. You can turn it on or off in Edit>Preferences>Edit.

Or you can use Ctrl+U.

As Peter said multi-measure rests are not displayed in Scroll view. Do you try to create them there? Still the best course is to let MikeR or myself check out the offending file.

Thanks so much, Ernest, Thus far, Mike had some very good leads in the past. So, for starts, I'll try Update Layout. If there are some lingering problems, I'll re-connect with y 'all!

Thanks again.
