I don't think I should have to create my own chord symbols. Why can't there be font you choose that has all the symbols with easy ways to say I want - or min or minor ? Aebersold style , Berklee ,Style , Hal Leonard style?

Lately I find easiest to just print out the page and write in the chords that Finale won't recognize.

We keep getting all these bizarre (to me) improvements but nothing to make chord symbol entry easier. The last real improvement was the ability to move chords and that was great but it was 2010 or 2007 !

Rant over

So in the meantime I guess  when creating a score (or lead sheet *) I use the jazz font and deal with it?

This is a feature request but also I'm hoping for some magic tool or method I haven't discovered to enter chords.

By the way there should be an option to create a lead sheet and then an option to create at a later date a score from it.

thanks Mike

I'm using OS 10.11.5 with Finale 2014 with the Jazz font

Option o = 0 shift option o looks like a repeat bracket.

option zero= is O and Shift Option zero = K in a box.

the manual is going to take some time . Time I don't have . I'll cont to just write in the chords until Finale make this more intuitive.

I gave tou the link to the page.

When selected, Finale substitutes the Maestro diminished () and half-diminished () symbols when you type "o" (lower case letter o) or "%" (SHIFT+5), respectively. When not selected, Finale simply maps the keys directly, without substituting symbols. Deselect this command if you are using a font other than Maestro, and want to use the characters mapped to the o and SHIFT+5 slots in that font.

Note: This command is used for chord entry only. Choosing this command will not affect any characters on chords already entered in the document

The key commands I gave are for Text fonts on a Mac.

So you have to put in a - and press enter . Otherwise it looks like something else .

I got this .... so it looks like I have to create it. I've done this in the past and it seems like I have to do it for every chart. Thank you for helping but this system is just so 1990.

Robert Rawlings,

The ø symbol is available in the Jazz font, in slot #191:

Are you using the default document Jazz Font Default?

The chord suffixes in Jazz Font Default use another font, namely the JazzCord font.

Unfortunately the JazzCord font has its ø symbol located at another character slot number, and the "automatical substitution” (Chord menu > Substitute Symbols) does not work with the JazzCord ø symbol.

If you edit the ø suffix, and replace the JazzCord font ø with the Jazz font ø, then Substitute Symbols works.

I just tried it, and it worked for me.

Do it in a document without libraries, and save the library of chords. Then you can load that library into new scores. Or, put it in your template(s.)

Educate me, please. Does the slashed circle mean the same thing as m7b5, all in that single symbol?
