I'm working with the new Finale under windows 10.  I need to change the banjo tab pitch values from standard D tuning to Double D tuning which is more commonly used in traditional music circles.  What would these pitch numbers be.

The strings are tuned:

A -fifth string

D

A

D

E

Does anyone know where a table of these pitches exist.  (I would also like to change the pitches on the dulcimer to account for different modal tunings like dorian or aeolian)

The secret is that the Pitch Numbers are MIDI numbers.

If you increase the Pitch Number by 1, you go chromatically up a half-step.

Just FYI, here are the MIDI numbers for Banjo - D Tuning:

String 5, G > 67

String 4, D > 50

String 3, F# > 54

String 2, A > 57

String 1, D > 62

Hence, Banjo - Double D Tuning:

String 5, A > 69

String 4, D > 50

String 3, A > 57

String 2, D > 62

String 1, E > 64

Another example:

Subtract 2 from each of the MIDI numbers for Banjo - Double D Tuning, and you get Banjo - Double C Tuning:

String 5, G > 67

String 4, C > 48

String 3, G > 55

String 2, C > 60

String 1, D > 62

If you are asking what MIDI numbers correspond, you can easily do a Google search (or use whatever search engine you prefer).

Thanks everyone.  I was trying to relate pitch numbers to Frequency or some other hard concept.  I'm not used to working with midi since all my playing is acoustic.   Perhaps if someone from finale is monitoring this a new label might be MIDI numbers or MIDI pitch number.  That would make searching for them on the internet much easier.

Thanks again,

Cheryl
