Ever since I got a second monitor a month ago, Finale no longer displays two dialog boxes, namely:

Page Layout > Systems > Edit Margins

and

Page Layout > Page Margins > Edit Page Margins

I've used these boxes 10,000 times in the last 20 years.  Now, I click on them and nothing appears.

Anyone else had this problem and found an answer?  Couldn't find it in the past posts.  I hope I don't have to Reset Preferences again!  Major headache.

… Ever since I got a second monitor a month ago, Finale no longer displays two dialog boxes …

… I hope I don't have to Reset Preferences again! …

This issue has been discussed before.

Unfortunately it seems that the culprit is the Preferences file.

However, instead of clicking the button “Reset All Preferences” you can try something else:

Quit Finale.

Move the Preferences file to another folder (e. g. to the Desktop) so that Finale can not find it.

Launch Finale.

When it is launched, Finale will build a fresh, new Preferences file - and (hopefully) the dialog boxes will display on the primary monitor at their default location.

And where do you find the Preferences?

I am not sure, but try this:

Go to

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale

Actually there are two different Preferences files (or INI files, as they are called):

"FINMIDI.ini" and "Finale.ini"

PS

It might be a good idea to make a backup copy of the Preferences file(s).

Then, if the Preferences get corrupted, just replace with the backup copy.

Did it all and those two dialog boxes still don't appear.  I just get nothing.  Everything else works fine. It's bizarre and it's frustrating!

By the way, that's a great way to test and see whether Resetting the Preferences will fix something.  In this case it didn't, so I'm glad I didn't actually Reset them!

Any other help would be greatly appreciated!  I used those dialog boxes a lot and the workaround are really tedious!

Something else to try:

Change the monitor’s resolution.

Chances are that the dialog boxes will appear inside the screen area, when you have changed the resolution.

     This is maddening.

I changed every monitor setting I could find (they are already both on the highest settings).  I even unplugged the new monitor and went back to the old, etc. etc, These two dialog boxes simply do not appear.  Everything else works fine. The only thing I haven't tried is reinstalling Finale.  Not sure how I'd even do that.

Has anyone else ever seen such a problem?

Is there a workaround?  Another way to access those boxes?  Some margin editing I can't do manually.

Perhaps it is time to contact the folks in Tech Support.

Specify the steps you've already taken, so that they can rule out things.

No luck so far. I specified the steps already taken, and they asked me the same questions I had just told them.  I was then instructed to uninstall and reinstall Finale, which took 3 hours and didn't help.  Those Blessed Dialog Boxes are still No Call/No Show.

Peter, you said "This issue has been discussed before." Where?  What was said?  I depend on those dialog boxes to pay my bills.  There's some music I can't work on without them.

Yeah, they're not just hiding, they're actually not opening.  If any other dialog box is open, I can't edit anything else until the box is closed. But with these two, I select the item

Page Layout > Systems > Edit Margins

or

Page Layout > Page Margins > Edit Page Margins

and I can still edit the doc fine, as though nothing was open.

At this point I begin to suspect demons. :-/
