I am using Finale 2014.5 with a macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 and can not find any way to add parenthesis around an add capo chord.

This once worked with an earlier version. The standard is to show the capped chords in parenthesis vertically above the concert pitch chords.

Am I missing something because I don't see this option anywhere?

It’s more work, but why not use the lyric tool?

1) By default Finale notates capo chords in Italics - like this:

Em

Fm

2) If you need the capo chords in non-Italic style, and in parenthesis, then you have to do some more work.

I suppose that you have selected the option “Left-Align Chords” (in the Chord menu), right?

a. You can add the left side parenthesis with the Expression Tool.

The horizontal position is fixed, with “Left-Align Chords” selected.

b. The right side parenthesis does not have a fixed horizontal position.

You can add the right side parenthesis with the Expression Tool, but horizontal position has to be customized for each chord symbol.

Another solution:

Create a duplicate copy of the chord suffix, and add the right side parenthesis to the suffix.

You will have to do this for each and every suffix, but the horizontal position will be “under control”.
