I need to update my MacBook Pro to macOS Mojave (the current OS is High Sierra 10.13.6). I received an email from Finale stating that this OS is not compatible with Finale 2014. I currently have Finale 2014.5. Is 2014.5 compatible with macOS Mojave?
I don't think so. I just bought a new computer, with Mojave, and used the backup from Time Machine to load the new one. It only brought over F25, and a couple of older versions of NP, SW, and PM. And most of them don't work, either. But it didn't ever try to install the 2012-2014 programs.
MakeMusic tells you this won't work and, if you try it, you're on your own. Finale will not install over High Sierra or Mojave before v. 25.4.1!
That said, I am running Finale 2014.5 & 25.5 over Mojave on an unsupported Mac (more on that below). I put it on my test SSD and used Migration Assistant to bring my system settings and Applications over (instead of installing which won't work). Finale 2014.5 will open for me and appears to work the same as in Sierra and High Sierra: with limitations. Some of my VIs will not load — the same ones that will not load in 25.5, Digital Performer and DSP-Q so that's not a Finale issue. 25.5 runs like a top.
I installed it on my 2010 27" iMac i7 using the instructions below.
When this guy writes
Currently, it is not possible to get full graphics acceleration when running Mojave on a system with a Radeon HD 5xxx or 6xxx series GPU. Mojave will be almost UNUSABLE without graphics acceleration. This includes the 15" and 17" MacBook Pro systems (MacBookPro8,2 and 8,3). If you want to enable GPU acceleration on these machines, you'll need to disable the AMD GPU (This will work on MacBook Pro 8,2 and 8,3 systems ONLY. You CANNOT disable the AMD GPU in an iMac.)...
believe it. Although it is too slow and the screen is glitchy to be practical, it does work well enough for testing.
If you upgrade to Mojave, I cannot recommend too strongly upgrading from High Sierra on a boot drive formatted APFS (not a partition!). This is so that, if you don't like it, you can revert back to High Sierra via Snapshots in a few minutes instead of many hours through an erase and complete Time Machine Restore.

Finale 2014.5 is considered compatible with macOS 10.8 to 10.12. So we do not expect that you will get favorable results when using this version of Finale with 10.14 Mojave and this is not supported.
Brenton, if you are having issues with using the Setup Wizard with v25 on Mojave, please use the Submit a Request button above and get in touch with us. We are not aware of any issues concerning this so we will definitely want to take a closer look at this with you.
Ok so I downloaded the Finale 25.5.0.259 and reinstalled it on my machine and authorized it and followed the information on the readme file and it worked. The version 25 is only launching from the Finder/ application location. Finale 2014.5 is the only icon appearing in Launchpad, not v25.
So do I now remove 2014.5 from my machine? And if I remove it how do I get v25 to appear in Launchpad?
Having said that the worst is over, I can now start a new document using setup wizard.
Plain and simple: Probably not. If it doesn’t run now, reinstalling will, most likely, not help. On the other hand, you lose nothing by trying.
Download the demo version of 26, and see if it’s better. You could also open a help ticket with Finale. Use the Submit a Request tab at the top of the page.
Since upgrading my Mac to Mojave, my Finale has developed a lot of 'quirks' . . . I have to restart after the program has been open a while, and sometimes shut down completely. I have never been complete happy with Finale and Mac - but have managed . But lately this has been quite annoying! I am wondering if Sibelius has these problems with Mac ???
Thank you, Nancy
I was having issues too. I contacted Finale and the instructions below made everything work better, except for the resolution, and you might just try the resolution "solution" first, so I'm highlighting that instruction at the top:
